pets & wild animals

There are occasionally wild animals on the property.  We have seen bears, mountain lions, large owls and other birds of prey. For this reason we only allow dogs in the tents, not cats. Please keep a close eye on your pet, especially at night.  Animals should always be in your line of sight and under voice control.  Other campers may have dogs on site as well.  If your dog is not under voice control or reactive to other dogs or people we ask that he/or she remain leashed at all times.

Please clean up after your pet while they are on property.

Please wipe your dog's feet upon entering your tent.  Small pet towels will be provided upon your arrival.  If you need more, please don't hesitate to ask.  If your pet sleeps in bed with you, please, please, please be mindful of the bedding.  Bring an extra blanket and try to keep their muddy fur & paws off of the white bedding

fire safety

We are located within the Santa Fe National Forest and within a stones throw of the burn scar of the largest forest fire in New Mexico history: The Hermit's Peak/Calf Canyon Fire.

We take fire safety seriously around here.  If there is high wind we will ask that you do not burn fire in your fire pit, we have gas firepits that can be distributed if windy conditions persist.  Each campsite is equipped with a firepit with a grill.  We offer firewood for sale or you can bring your own. Eagles Nest & Pancho’s in the village of Pecos usually have some.  We provide quick start firestarters and STRONGLY discourage the use of lighter fluid.

Please do not leave your fire unattended.  If you plan on leaving the property please extinguish all fires before departing.  Any camper leaving an unextinguished fire will be fined $100 and will not be allowed to return to Field Trip.

  • Yes! There are many spots on our property along the river to fish, relax or nap. Feel free to move any Adirondack chair that is not associated with a tent to the spot of your choice along the river bank.

Our property runs up and down the West side of the Pecos river. The Northernmost boundary of our riverbank is the Macho Creek inlet and the Southern boundary runs parallel to the Southernmost edge of the Pavilion & Outdoor Kitchen.

New Mexico state law states that the river is public property as long as your feet are in the water. If you have the right gear and want to wander up or down the river you are more than welcome to, but please do not go ashore on the banks other than with our property boundaries as all the adjoining parcels are private property and that would constitute trespassing.

  • You do not need a fishing license to fish on private property but if you intend to fish anywhere other than Field Trip please make sure to procure one on your own. Licenses can be purchase here.

  • The temperature can fluctuate up here in the blink of an eye. It can snow in May, have typhoon-like rain in July and be hot and sunny in February so please plan accordingly. Summer brings some pretty intense Thunder/Lighting and Rain so keep that in mind….Pecos keeps us on our toes!

Below is a non-exhaustive list of clothing items we recommend bringing:

    Rain Coat

    Long Underwear

    Warm Pajamas

    Down jacket or Fleece

    Wool socks

    Bathing Suit

Hats (1 for warmth and 1 for sun)

    Gloves

    FOOTWEAR

This is a campground, we get a LOT of rain and snow out here, which means MUD! Bring shoes that can get muddy and dirty. In the cooler months we recommend waterproof boots or galoshes. High Heels or platforms are not recommended. Tents are outfitted with simple terry slippers but in the spring and fall guests might want to bring warmer slippers to change into once in the tent. Easy slip on shoes are also a good thing to bring with you for quick trips to the bathhouse. Tevas or Watershoes are a good idea if you plan to go in the river.

    Headlamp

All tents are outfitted with a single flashlight but if you have a camping headlamp it is a good idea to throw it in your bag to navigate outdoors at night. If coming with children and pets we recommend bringing glow in the dark accessories to keep track of them in the dark.

    Toiletries

    Sunscreen

    Insect Repellant

    Toothbrush and Toothpaste

    Food and Snacks

All tents are equipped with the cooking basics as well as a cooler. Please make sure to store ALL your food inside the locked cooler, in your vehicle or in the “small” shared fridge at the outdoor kitchen to keep animal interest to a minimum. Do not leave food out and take care to dispose of all food in the garbage cans at the pavilion. Garbage will be emptied every night at 10pm, to discourage animal scavenging. If you have food garbage after 10pm, please keep it INSIDE your tent until the morning. Please bring along any plastic containers and plastic baggies to store your food as needed.

ADULT BEVERAGES

We do not have a liquor license or beer & wine license and do not provide alcohol.  If you are over 21, please bring your own and use responsibly.

SMOKING

Smoking is not allowed at Field Trip NM except in designated areas.  Please do not smoke close to the tents.  Please make sure your cigarettes are completely extinguished and disposed of properly.

WEAPONS

Guns of any kind are not allowed on the property, we ask that you leave them at home.  If you are coming to Pecos to hunt please keep your weapon safely locked in your car.
